About

Every month, KET hosts Spoken Maik, a poetry and spoken word event curated by Niki Papadogiannaki and Stavros Anagnou.

For the closing of the season, a special evening is organized that returns to the essence of spoken word—a profound and multifaceted phenomenon, even though at its core it is nothing more than people sitting in a dark room and listening to one another: a practice as old as time itself.

Spoken word opens windows to other worlds: a space where we share our inner world—or the way we see the world. We may live alongside many people and many stories, but we rarely share them. And it’s not just about the story itself; it’s also about the way we choose to express it. In such a broad artistic practice, that choice is part of the exchange.

Spoken word means vulnerability: not simply composing a poem that will steal the show, but creating a space where everyone can reveal their vulnerability—whether they’re sharing their words for the thousandth time or for the very first. Intense experiences that need processing; experiences that can sometimes only be shared in front of strangers.

It also means embracing ambiguity: people share their views, styles, and inner worlds with the audience. We may not know someone, we may not be familiar with their ways, but spoken word invites us to pause for a moment to listen to what we don’t immediately understand—a prerequisite for such an endeavor to work.

To wrap up the season, Niki and Stavros invited key members of the community to put together a performance centered on these themes, incorporating music, sampling, looping, ambient sounds, and dance… with words always at the heart of it all.
