About

The dance group ΦΕΜ returns at KET with their performance “A Talk” for two nights, the 5th and the 6th of June.

A meeting. You speak and I hear. I ask, you answer. We agree. I lead and you follow. You resist. Embarrassment.

“A Talk” is a duet exploring the ways in which we communicate and shape relationships. It is a kinetic dialogue of two bodies that need to understand and to be understood. They create relationships of interdependence, friendship and exploitation, trying to find out what sets them in motion. How will they choose to continue the discussion? It is a dance performance inspired by interpersonal communication, everyday encounters and the familiar relationships that a person experiences and creates in his/her life. Two bodies that carry memories, experiences and needs – two worldviews – confront and try to synchronize with each other within the surrounding noise. They lead, follow, suffocate and collide in an attempt to reduce the difference that separates them, with one move at a time.

The performance focuses on the processes of communication and dialogue and attempts to redefine the classical roles and vocabulary we encounter in ballroom social dances. It approaches the typical “male” and “female” roles as constructed structures, built by a set of communication rules. It seeks to break these roles and entangle the rules through a lead-follow game of intention and touch.

“A Talk” was presented for the first time in November 2018 at the Municipal Theater of Pireaus and later in December of the same year at KET. During the development of the project, the group was hosted by the Center of Dance Studies Ι. & Ρ. Duncan in the spring of 2018, and also participated in the “Open Doors, 2nd Platform of Young Artists” program with the support of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with The Athens Concert Hall: Megaron and the Municipal Theater of Pireaus.
