About

Alcalica’s concerts combine improbable yet agreeable sounds and instruments. They travel on a mutating electronic carpet with many different stops: a bauhausian dadaist improvisation theater performance, intoxicating non-dogmatic rituals and sincere dance music. Each concert is marked by the moment and the place. This point of encounter bears eternal resonances and touches to the core of the human matter.

Alcalica (Julie Loi, Leonidas Danezos) is a self-produced band from the Island of Lesbos and Berlin. Their sound is influenced by rembetiko and broken beats. On stage they play the Persian santoor, Greek baglamas, African kalimba, hardware electronics and vocals in five languages, female, poetic and profound. In twelve years they have released six vinyl albums and given hundreds of concerts across Europe. They have collaborated with renowned artists such as Baba Zula and Brenna MacCrimmon on stage as well as in the studio.
