About

Two performances combining spoken word, sound, improvisation, and field recordings by MUD (Belgium / U.S.) and S.t.m.C & Stellka (Greece).

🔷 The duo MUD presents the performance [some] roots.

MUD is a collaboration between artist/writer Anne Penders, and clarinetist Katie Porter, a journey where poetry sometimes meets politics, through sound, image, text, and archival material. Working from land art, memory, super 8 movies and field recordings, they create shifting territories where personal histories and ecological realities intersect. The project unfolds as an ongoing trilogy first rooted in Nancy Holt’s desert works, contemporary environmental urgency, and layered archives… echoing much further as rootstalks grow. Through distance-based exchanges and chance operations, they transform materials into scores, performances, drawings, and films.

The writer and interdisciplinary artist Anne Penders constantly seeks to question our position in a troubled world. She undertook a special research project focused on China (2001–2014), then shifted her focus to Greece (2012–2021…), until her encounter with a biologist in Athens led to a long-term, ongoing project titled “peripou.” Her book “kalà” has been translated into Greek by Anastasia Chavatza (Vakchikon Publications, 2020).
