About

Following their first Athenian concert at the Athens Conservatory, Rizà visit KET for a unique appearance.

Their sound is shaped by the voice of Themistocles Karpodinis, known mainly for his leading roles as an actor in the performances of Dimos Avdeliodis and Bijoux de Kant, as well as his recent release with Rebetiko songs, “Bootleggers”; by the piano of Costis Zouliatis aka Costinho, known as founding member of bands such as Night On Earth and Rebetators, for his collaborations (Thanassis Papakonstantinou, Maria Kotti et al.), as well as for his solo work in improvisation and composition for the theatre; and the double-bass of Petros Lamprides, who has long time presence in recordings and concerts wihtin diverse music music projects (Checkmate in 2 flats, Night On Earth, Johnie Thin Trio, Sofia Sarri, Athenian Mandolinata Nikolaos Lavdas etc.).

Their self-titled debut album was released last October on vinyl and CD, by the label “apo”, which was initiated for this purpose as well as for other creative projects in the future.

Rizà attempt a different approach Greek traditional and folk music, with unadorned music arrangements tuned in an acoustic mood – reflecting a range of music references: from the albums of ECM Records and Mediterranean jazz to the aesthetics of field recordings and DJ Shadow; from a pinch of Erased Tapes to overtones of Coltrane and noise electronics. Rather than deliberately experimenting, they look upon the concept of evolution as an inherent element of tradition. Their repertoire includes traditional songs – mainly originated from the islands’ regions: Cyclades, the Dodecanese, Euboea, Aegina, Lesvos and the coasts of Asia Minor.
