The concert\u00a0\u201cThe Beauty of the Husband<\/em> and other experiments in guided improvisation\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0is the meeting on stage of Joris<\/strong> Beets<\/strong> (delta harp+pedals), Tim<\/strong> Ward<\/strong> (live electronics), Dora Panagopoulou<\/strong> (piano\/shruti\/electronics) and Panagiotis Kanellopoulos<\/strong> (mandolin). An evening of improvised music that seeks to initiate a dialogue between improvised sound, fragments from non-narrative films, and excerpts from Anne Carson<\/strong>\u2019s mind-blowing The Beauty of the Husband<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anne Carson’s ‘husband’; you mean the poem – not the actual husband? I kind of like the confusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cShall we sharpen our eyes and circle closer to the beauty of the husband \u2013 carefully, for he was on fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under him the floor was on fire,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

the world was on fire,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

truth was on fire\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cA wound gives off its own light
surgeons say.
If all the lamps in the house were turned out
you could dress this wound
by what shines from it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joris Beets, <\/strong>is an improvising musician, designer and inventor of Delta harp (www.delta-harp.com\/delta<\/u><\/a>), an instrument that seeks to redefine the way we think about harp. He is a member of Orchestra Elastique <\/em>(www.orchestraelastique.com<\/u><\/a>). He spends most of his summer time in Serifos. www.jorisbeets.com\/live<\/u><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tim Ward <\/strong>is a sound artist with a background in electroacoustic music composition and live electronics. He is involved with a wide range of projects, most recently focusing on soundscapes, mapping and their relationship to electroacoustic composition. He is a member of the Medea Electronique<\/em> collective as well as Spiza<\/em> and teaches music at Deree College, Athens. www.medeaelectronique.com\/members<\/u><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dora Panagopoulou <\/strong>is a composer of acoustic music who has increasingly incorporated electronic elements in her music. Much of her recent compositional activity has been linked to Spiza<\/em>, an artistic society bringing together diverse artists to work on common larger-scale projects. Panagiotis Kanellopoulos<\/strong>, studied the mandolin with Alison Stephens (London) and Vivi Geka (Athens).
